Nakamura Tokichi Honten
Nakamura Tokichi Honten opened in 1854. With a history of more than 165 years, this tea shop is famous for its matcha sweets. While there are three Nakamura Tokichi stores in Kyoto Prefecture, the Nakamura Tokichi Uji Head Shop, which was the first store opened, is a must visit for those with a sweet tooth.
Only a minute from JR Uji Station, the store building is an important item of cultural heritage. In the gardens, there is a stunning 200-year-old pine tree, the Horaifuna-matsu, one of 100 famous trees in Uji City. Visitors can enjoy the view from the open terrace building, remodeled from what was once the tea factory, while sipping their tea.
The most popular delicacies in the store are, of course, the tea and the desserts! The tea jellies are a particular favorite, (which come in two flavors: matcha and hojicha roasted tea) and are made using Nakamura Tokichi’s secret recipe, sealing all the matcha flavor into the jelly, and paired with matcha ice cream, Japanese white flour dumplings, and red bean paste. It's a luxurious dessert served in a photogenic bamboo cup only used at the Uji main store. Visitors seeking a memorable tea experience in Uji can experience the rich flavors of Uji matcha here, making it an essential stop for tea lovers.

Maiko Tea Boutique
Maiko Tea Boutique is directly managed by Maiko no Cha ("Apprentice Geisha's Tea"), a popular gyokuro (high quality green tea) shop in Kyotanabe City. There is a selection of teas for different occasions, be it for gifting or everyday use, including high quality gyokuro tea hand-rolled by masters and teas marked with the Yamashita seal. At the café, if you order a set of gyokuro tea and a tea sweet, you can learn an easy way to prepare your tea, causing many to head home with a tea pot and some tea leaves to try it out for themselves.

Kyoto Kitcho Shokado
The Shokado Bento packs seasonal flavors into a wooden box, divided into the four sections of the Japanese character for "rice field." Inspired by the actions of Shokado Shojo, a priest at Iwashimizu Hachimangu Shrine, who once used a farmer's seed container as his bowl, Kitcho's founder, Yuki Tei-ichi, also presented the food this way.
Take your time enjoying the local Kyoto cuisine here as you enjoy the camellia and bamboo in the garden connected to it.
