Shop & Gallery Chikubuen

Takano Chikko's directly managed store "Shop & Gallery Chikubuen" is located in a place rich in history and nature, adjacent to the company of Nagaoka Tenmangu, Hachijogaike Pond, and a beautiful bamboo grove.

Until now, Takano Chikko, a bamboo product manufacturing company, has established a workshop in Nagaokakyo, and while protecting and cultivating high-quality bamboo forests, we have inherited the techniques cultivated over many years in the production of tea ceremony utensils. Here at Chikubuen, we hold various special exhibitions and events as a place where you can actually see, touch, and experience the products made by craftsmen with the aim of passing on their skills and knowledge to future generations.

"Chikubuen" was originally built by the bamboo shoots kaiseki restaurant "Kinsuitei" to commemorate the Osaka Expo in 1970, and is an old ryokan that retains the atmosphere of the Showa period. In the store, you can take your time and look at a wide range of products, from tea utensils that Takano Chikko has been working on since its founding, one-of-a-kind items that shine with the charm of craftsmanship and materials, and household goods that add color to your life.

Enjoy the Nagaokakyo streets to Komyoji Temple that only the locals know

Only a ten-minute ride from JR Kyoto Station will find you at Nagaokakyo City and at the beginning of a lovely half-day stroll in a largely unexplored part of Kyoto’s southwest, with the final destination being the beautiful Komyoji Temple. You may also notice that the places listed are mainly food; feel free to skip anything if you’ve met your calorie quota. This walk comes with a bonus; we can guarantee that you will be the only traveler on this path enjoying the ever-changing scenery. If you happen across another, chances are they’ve also found this article, and you should say hello to each other.

The walk is about an hour nonstop. If you decide to detour or relax and enjoy yourself at the final destination—Komyoji Temple with its astounding grounds and sights—you could easily spend three hours in total. There are buses that will bring you back to either Hankyu Nagaoka Tenjin Station or JR Nagaokakyo Station which will get you swiftly back to central Kyoto.

Kikuharu

We are a local Japanese confectionery shop that specializes in “Tanba Dainagon,” a high-grade bean variety. Our most famous sweet is our "Takenoko Monaka" made with locally produced bamboo shoots. We offer many sweets with a Western twist in addition to traditional Japanese sweets. Our seasonal fruit daifuku such as "Strawberry Daifuku" are also popular.
